Images of solar system neighbors
Posted in Current Events, General, Stargazing on February 2nd, 2010 by Peter LipscombI set-up my 10″ Meade LX200 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope on the back patio last weekend to try and capture some images of solar system neighbors. With Mars just past opposition and Saturn beginning to move in to prime evening hours, I figured it was time to shake out the cobwebs and see what I could get. I also managed to grab a shot of one of my favorite lunar craters, Petavius.
I used a specialized color video camera to record a series of AVI frames onto my imaging laptop’s hard drive. Then, I worked with a program called Registax to grade, align and stack the best frames from each capture. Final processing was done in Photoshop.
